Athletics (Track & Field)

Heats and lanes, finals from qualifiers, field-event attempts, relays, meet records.

Who uses this: Org admin Host institute Institute / coach Referee / scorer
Before you start, finish: Teams & Players

Track and field events use heats, lanes, attempts and marks instead of a bracket. Create the event with Format Heats (Athletics) and fill in its Athletics settings (see Games & Events).

Institutes enter athletes exactly as for any other event: a team in the event, with the athletes as its players.

Event settings explained

SettingMeaning
Event typeTrack (races, run in heats) or Field (jumps and throws, measured over attempts).
Entry type (track)Individual; Individual, team scored (cross-country style: individual results plus a team total); or Relay (the institute's team is one entrant).
Lanes per heatHow many runners per heat.
Auto-qualifiers per heat (Q)The top N in each heat go to the final.
Fastest losers to final (q)The next fastest athletes across all heats who also go through.
Attempts per athlete (field)Usually 3 or 6. The best valid attempt counts.
Counted runners per teamFor team-scored events: how many of each institute's finishers count towards its total.

Track events

  1. Open Games & Events → Athletics on the event.
  2. Click Generate heats. Athletes are split into heats and given lanes.
  3. Schedule each heat (date, time, venue, official), the same way as a match.
  4. Print Lane cards for the starter.
  5. After each heat, the official enters each lane's time in seconds, and positions are worked out from the times.
  6. Once all heats are completed, click Generate final from qualifiers. The Q and q athletes go into one final, and its result decides the medals.
  7. Print the Result sheet for the notice board.

Field events

  1. Click Generate flight to set the order athletes compete in.
  2. Schedule the flight, then the official clicks Enter attempts and records each attempt's mark. Leave an attempt empty for a foul or pass.
  3. Each athlete's best mark decides their position.

Meet records and team score

  • Meet record: the best mark so far in this tournament for that event is tracked and highlighted when it's broken.
  • Team score (team-scored events): the sum of each institute's counted runners' finishing positions; the lowest total wins. This is shown separately and isn't added to the medal tally.

Regenerate heats / Regenerate flight throw away the current heats or flight and any results already entered in them.
